20/03/2013

The Ministry of Infrastructure of Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste has awarded SANJOSE Constructora the remodelling and maintenance works of a road 28.7 km long from Dili - Tibar - Liquica for USD 20.51 million.

Works shall start at kilometre point 6.8 of the existing road, at the western side of the roundabout near the Comoro Airport, located at the outskirts of the capital city, Dili, and linked to the west with the district of Liquica. This stretch forms part of the main road of the city, which joins Timor Leste with Indonesia, from Dili till Mota Ain (bordering Indonesia).

This road crosses two districts, Dili and Liquica, and is one of the most important routes of Timor Leste, with one of the highest traffic flows of non-urban roads within the country. This route is used by all type of vehicles: lorries, busses, car, motorcycles and bikes.

Description of the project

Coastal route between the sea and rock formations with steep gradients. The existing road has slope stability problems in several locations which require different and various actions throughout its entire path. Some sections of the route show strong soil erosion due to the poor condition of drainage structures.

The existing road has a width of 4 meters and the new route will ensure a minimum width of 6 meters arranged into two lanes (one in each direction) plus two shoulders of 1 meter each.

The project includes the execution of the works within a period of 22 months and maintenance services for the following 24 months upon the date of completion of the work.
